Board renews inmate and juvenile health-care services despite bankruptcy questions

LaSalle County Board members voted Oct. 9 to renew the county’s inmate and juvenile health-care services contract for fiscal year 2025–26 amid questions from board members about the vendor’s prior bankruptcy filing.
The motion to renew the contract was made by Mister Reed (County Board member) and seconded by Miss Juric (County Board member). During discussion a board member asked, “I had heard this company was in bankruptcy. Is that been resolved?” A county representative said the vendor had filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 11, 2024, but that staff expected the issue had been resolved and that services would continue while the county solicits bids for the next contract cycle.
A board member suggested the legal specifics depend on whether the bankruptcy was Chapter 7 or Chapter 11. County staff replied that, operationally, the vendor had continued to provide services and that the county would put the contract out for bids after the current renewal.
The renewal passed on roll call, 22 ayes, 5 nays. The county indicated it will solicit new bids for the service after the term concludes.
