The LaSalle County Finance and TIF Committee discussed the hiring path for a recommended finance director on Oct. 14 and agreed to send the matter to the county's salary and labor committee for review of salary and final recommendation.
Committee members said the subcommittee that interviewed applicants had a recommendation, but they requested an executive-session discussion within the finance committee to finalize the committee's recommendation before forwarding it. "Normally when a subcommittee is formed for the purpose of hiring, then...that subcommittee then reports back to the committee that formed it," one committee member said, noting the full finance committee must act on the subcommittee's recommendation.
Members asked that a name not be included in a finance motion until the executive-session discussion and salary-and-labor review occur. Members also asked staff to place the item on the agendas for upcoming finance and salary-and-labor meetings so the overall timeline would not delay the hiring process.
Why it matters: Filling the finance director position affects county financial management, internal controls and the ability to conduct forecasting and budget operations.
Next steps: The committee will hold an executive-session discussion at the next finance meeting to decide whether to forward a recommendation to the salary-and-labor committee; staff will add the matter to salary-and-labor's agenda, and salary-and-labor will consider salary ranges and recommendation to the full board.
