The Fairfield Union Local School District board approved a personal service supplemental contract on Oct. 20 that names Chris Dupler as the head softball coach, following detailed praise from district leaders and Dupler’s own remarks about his goals for the program.
Superintendent Travis Bellville and High School Principal Mister Schafer described Dupler as an energetic, experienced coach who draws strong recommendations from peers. “The knowledge about the game of softball just spills out of him,” Bellville said during the discussion. Schafer added that Dupler’s presentation generated excitement among student-athletes.
Dupler told the board he had served as an assistant coach at Fairfield Union for seven years and that he expects practices to be demanding. “Practice will be hard. It's gonna be a college practice, and you'll have discipline,” Dupler said. “We're gonna win. That's why I came here.”
Why it matters
Head coaches shape program culture, player development and community engagement. The board discussed the hire publicly and then approved the supplemental contract by unanimous vote, authorizing Dupler to begin his duties and to work with students and staff on season planning.
Details and next steps
The board approved the supplemental contract on a motion by Mister Hoffman, seconded by Missus Johns. After the vote the board welcomed Dupler and encouraged community attendance at upcoming practices and competitions. The athletics department will complete onboarding and the treasurer will process the supplemental contract.
