Courtney Odom was appointed and sworn in Oct. 2 to fill the District 1 vacancy on the Cannon County School Board created by the departure of Wayne McMacken.

Chair Nathan Sanders opened the floor for nominations for the vacancy. Commissioners nominated Odom, moved to close nominations and voted. Nathan Sanders, Judy Sean, Chris Singleton, Curtis George, Eddie Meyers, Brent Brandon, Randy Gannon, Crystal Alexander and Tony Burnett voted yes; the motion carried. County personnel administered the oath of office and Odom repeated the oath to support the constitutions of Tennessee and Cannon County.

Commissioners thanked outgoing member Wayne McMacken for his years of service during the appointment discussion. The commission did not set a separate term-end date during the meeting; no other deliberations about the seat were recorded.

Odom took her seat immediately after the swearing-in and the commission continued with its agenda.
