Quentin Parsons, Crawford County emergency manager, told the Crawford County Commission that he had the county’s Emergency Management Performance Grant paperwork ready for a commissioner’s signature and would submit it the same day.

The grant, Parsons said, “is our EMPG grant for the Emergency Management Preparedness Grant we receive every year from the federal government.” He said the award helps pay the emergency manager’s salary and other related costs.

Parsons said the county received $29,190 the previous year and that the award “might get cut a little bit, but not, not too much,” adding he expected “around $25,000 for this next through 2026.” He also said the county would not know the final award amount until December and that funds typically arrive to the county around January or February.

Commissioners and staff discussed application timing. Parsons said the state sent application materials in early September and that the application deadline is “like, October 15.” He told the commission he would submit the signed packet that day and that approvals from the state usually take about 24 hours.

Parsons also updated the commission on his professional certification, saying he expects to complete the remaining class on Nov. 28 and to be Kansas-certified by the end of the year.

No motion or formal vote related to the EMPG award was recorded on the transcript; Parsons was instructed to sign and submit the application, and staff will process any incoming funds if and when the state awards them.
