Lane said the department received two grants for electric school buses — one from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and awards from the Minnesota Department of Commerce — and that district staff are working to prepare necessary charging and infrastructure. Board members asked whether charging infrastructure costs were budgeted; staff said those costs were included in the grant awards.
On transportation, the district reported it is fully staffed with bus drivers and aides at the start of the year but cautioned that staffing levels can change; district transportation staff noted drivers and contractors will drive more than 1.8 million miles and serve over half a million bus stops over the school year.
