District completes multiple construction projects, plans solar installations and rolls out security and communications upgrades

Operations staff said phase 2 HVAC improvements at Mariner Middle School and the phase 2 renovation at Central Middle School (including cafeteria and kitchen work) were completed before the school year. Sunrise Park phase 2 work is underway; staff expect early childhood and transition-education spaces to be completed by spring, with final punch-list and billing to follow. The operations report also highlighted an inclusive playground ribbon cutting at Otter Lake and Birch Lake elementary schools.
The district said it will roll out solar installations later this fall at Venice Heights Elementary and White Bear Lake Area High School, partly funded by a competitive Solar for Schools grant. Staff also described security and safety investments: a new digital system to manage and track emergency drills, the implementation of standard response protocols from the I Love You Guys Foundation as district guidance, and a new district communications app that will be piloted at the high school and eventually include teachers, staff and first responders.
