The Cedar Park City Council issued a proclamation recognizing September 2025 as Hunger Action Month and heard from a Central Texas Food Bank official who described rising food insecurity across the bank’s 21-county service area, including Williamson County.
Mayor James Penn read the proclamation noting that about 5.3 million Texans face food insecurity, with the Central Texas Food Bank providing nearly 54 million meals last year across its network. The proclamation recognizes community action during Hunger Action Month and highlights the food bank’s emergency distributions in response to recent flooding.
Beth Corbett, vice president of government affairs and advocacy for the Central Texas Food Bank, told the council the food bank is headquartered in Austin and serves a broad 21-county region through approximately 250 partner agencies. Corbett described a recent regional community needs assessment and said the organization is focusing both on immediate charitable relief and long-term regional food economy strategies such as job and supply-chain development.
Corbett emphasized local partnerships in Williamson County and offered copies of the needs assessment to council. She said the food bank’s work includes emergency food distributions and ongoing support for partner agencies that serve families in need.
Council members thanked the food bank for its work and accepted the proclamation; no funding motion or budget change was taken at the meeting. The proclamation and Corbett’s remarks were presented as part of the council’s ceremonial recognitions for the evening.
