Winton Manufacturing outlines organics collection work, invites Wenatchee leaders to facility tour

Robert Schmidt, general manager of Winton Manufacturing, addressed the Wenatchee City Council during the citizens-comment period on Sept. 11 to introduce the company’s composting and organics-collection operations.
Schmidt said Winton provides sustainable composting solutions, accepts wood debris and slash for composting after wildfires, and supported suppression and recovery during the Lower Sugarloaf fires. He said Winton was recognized by the Washington State Recycling Association and works with state and local partners on wildfire recovery.
Schmidt told the council that, since Jan. 1, 2024, Winton has offered collection services in the city of Wenatchee for businesses that produce organic waste, naming Confluence Health (Confluence Hospital) and Wenatchee Valley College among the company’s early customers. He said Winton has also begun curbside residential organics collection for Leavenworth and described the firm’s role in helping local entities comply with organics-management laws.
Schmidt invited Mayor Mike Poirier and council members to tour Winton’s facility this fall to see capacity and equipment firsthand; he said staff from the city have already visited and that a tour is being scheduled. No formal action or city commitment to procure services was taken at the meeting.
