Norwalk policy committee moves to implement bell-to-bell cellphone regulation after parent, staff surveys

Staff member Diane, speaking at the Norwalk School District Board of Education policy committee meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 17, presented a redlined regulation that would require students to keep personal phones silenced and stored away during the school day, allowing use only before and after school.

The proposal centralizes rules that previously differed between elementary/middle and high school levels and was shaped by student council drafts, teacher feedback and a parent survey that drew more than 1,200 responses. "Students can bring the phone to school, but they can only use them before and after school," Staff member Diane said as she reviewed the clean regulation.
