The Utah Senate Education Confirmation Committee on Friday recommended reappointment of Keith Titus and Brent Bishop to the Weber State University board of trustees and forwarded both names to the full Senate with favorable recommendations.
The committee heard presentations from both nominees about their community ties and institutional priorities. Keith Titus, a Weber State board member, said he would focus on rekindling faculty engagement and improving student retention. "We need to make sure that that concern of our faculty and staff doesn't creep into the effect of the students," Titus said, citing a recent faculty survey that he said showed high levels of discouragement among instructors.
Titus described several institutional initiatives, including a direct-admissions program that has allowed roughly 10,000 students in Ogden, Davis and Morgan counties to receive direct admission and 21 transfer credits to Weber State. He also highlighted partnerships with Hill Air Force Base and a tuition-and-fee freeze for students with fewer than a threshold of credits designed to address access and affordability.
Brent Bishop, also recommended for reappointment, described long-standing ties to Weber State and service on multiple university committees including audit and academic committees. Bishop said he would focus on front-end preparation for students — such as improving concurrent-enrollment pathways — so that more students arrive college-ready and persist to completion.
Both reappointments were made by roll-call motions in committee and approved unanimously. The committee forwarded both names to the full Senate for confirmation.
