Ben Mackey, a Lone Star Governance coach leading the session, told trustees that “the single most important job of a board is to set priorities,” and guided them through an exercise that asked each trustee to rank student-outcome metrics. After group work and a point-ranking exercise, trustees coalesced around four top priorities: third-grade reading, third-grade math, Algebra I (middle-school/Algebra I End‑of‑Course) performance and college-, career- and military-readiness, often shortened to CCMR.
The board framed the items as the “what” they want the district to achieve; Mackey and other facilitators said administration will propose the “how” — the concrete measures, time lines and interim checks trustees will use to monitor progress.
