The Arlington ISD Board of Trustees ratified two administrative appointments in a unanimous vote on Sept. 18, confirming Brandon Howard as assistant principal at Arlington High School and Lizette Gonzales as assistant principal at Mary Moore Elementary.
Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Smith introduced both appointees and thanked trustees for ratifying appointments discussed in closed session. Howard, who was introduced to the board as having more than 20 years in Arlington ISD and holding a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at Arlington and a bachelor’s degree from McMurry University, addressed trustees and family in the audience. "I'm super super excited to become an AP at Arlington High and to join the work that you do every day impacting kids and making sure they receive more than just an education," he said.
Lizette Gonzales was presented as having a master's degree in educational administration from the University of North Texas and a bachelor's degree from Southern Methodist University and bringing a decade of leadership experience across elementary and secondary campuses. Speaking after her ratification she said she was "both humbled and very, very thrilled to join you and serve the community at Moore. I look forward to supporting the vision that Miss Jackson and the team have for everyone there." Trustees approved the motions to ratify, with Trustee Fowler moving and Trustee Richardson seconding; President Justin Chapa announced the motion carried with all trustees voting in the affirmative.
The appointments were announced after a brief public portion on appointments (no registered speakers) and a short recess for photos. The board did not take additional formal action related to the hires beyond the ratification vote.
