Canine Care & Control to waive impoundment fees during relocation reclamation window

Lucas County approved a temporary waiver of impoundment fees for dogs taken into Canine Care & Control during the facility relocation; fees will be waived for dogs impounded Sept. 29–Oct. 3 if reclaimed Oct. 4–Oct. 8, and licensing purchase will waive remaining fees for unlicensed dogs.
The Lucas County Board of Commissioners approved a temporary fee-waiver program Sept. 16 to support the relocation of the Canine Care & Control facility.
Dave Blythe, speaking for Canine Care & Control, said the facility will be closed to the public Sept. 29–Oct. 3 for relocation. The board authorized waiving impoundment fees for any dog impounded during those dates if the animal is reclaimed between Oct. 4 and Oct. 8. For dogs without a current county license, the remainder of impoundment fees will be waived if the owner purchases a license.
Commissioners voted to approve the waiver. Blythe said the goal is to return as many dogs as possible to owners during the transition period.
