Athens-Limestone County Public Library reports heavy use, new programs and energy-saving window tinting

Beasley said the library has installed window tinting to reduce heat and glare and lower utility bills. He also noted new seating in the children’s activities room that has drawn much greater use by young patrons.
Beasley presented printed calendars of events and told commissioners the library offers more than 20 ongoing free programs for all ages, including digital literacy classes through Calhoun Community College, GED and career training materials, RSVP free tax-preparation assistance, SilverSneakers fitness classes, North Alabama Area Health Education Center programs, adult yoga, a crocheting club, therapy dogs for read-to-me sessions, and master-gardener lunch-and-learn events.
On usage, Beasley said the library has 7,500 to 10,000 cardholders and about 70,000 visitors a year, and he cited 7,341 visits in August with one Saturday drawing about 400 people during open hours. He described the library as an important community hub that “adds to the quality of life.”
The presentation was a public-comment item; commissioners thanked Beasley for the update and no formal action was recorded in the work-session excerpt.
