Limestone County approves economic development payment, multiple grant applications and juvenile services agreements

The Limestone County Commission approved a resolution to contribute funds to Carpenter Technology Corp. and authorized a suite of grant applications and contracts for county operations.

By resolution the commission agreed that Limestone County "will reimburse Carpenter Technology up to $75,000 over a 3 year period for expenses required during [a] construction project," as presented on the agenda. The motion to approve the resolution was moved and seconded and passed unanimously.

On grants and contracts, the commission approved a $200,000 contract with the U.S. Department of Transportation for a comprehensive safety action plan; the county will match up to $50,000, as stated by the chair. The body also authorized a $20,000 Mazda Toyota grant application for the Limestone County Sheriff's Office (no county match required) and approved an application for a Homeland Security grant to purchase and install security cameras at the Clinton Street Courthouse Annex and the courthouse square; the Homeland Security grant amount was not determined in the meeting.

On juvenile services, the commission approved a fiscal year 2526 contract with the Alabama Department of Youth Services for detention bed use and separately approved an Alabama Department of Youth Services agency grant agreement in the amount of $49,757 for FY2526. The commission also approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Coleman County Juvenile Detention Center to house Limestone County juvenile court detainees.
