Copperas Cove nominates Inez Faizon to Coryell County Appraisal District; second seat deferred

Ariana Beckman, the city’s director of budget, told the council the Coryell County Appraisal District board will fill two four-year terms running Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2029, and that taxing units may nominate one or two candidates by Oct. 15. Beckman summarized eligibility rules and recent changes from the Legislature, including staggered four-year terms that began Jan. 1, 2025.
Councilman Sean Alzona moved to nominate Inez Faizon and Kevin George to the board; Councilman John Hale seconded. After discussion in which at least one council member questioned whether Kevin George was a Copperas Cove resident and recommended nominating someone who lives in the city, councilmembers modified the approach.
Councilmembers ultimately nominated Inez Faizon and agreed to postpone naming a second nominee until the council’s Oct. 7 meeting to allow staff and members to identify a Copperas Cove resident. City staff advised that nominees must have been residents of the appraisal district for at least two years and that employees of taxing units are ineligible unless they are elected officials.
Outcome: Inez Faizon was nominated; the selection of a second nominee is deferred to the Oct. 7 meeting to allow the city additional time to identify a resident candidate.
