The City Council approved Change Order No. 1 for the Little Brooklyn Park project to extend water service to the site, including freeze‑proof hose bibs, a water meter, backflow prevention and insulated connections.
Public works staff said the change order was funded by savings from the walking-trail portion of the park project. The water line will provide outdoor water for maintenance, landscaping and cleaning; staff emphasized the fixtures will be lockable and frost‑protected to prevent unauthorized use.
Council members said they had consulted with the neighborhood association and that president Maxine approved using the savings for water infrastructure so that future volunteer or neighborhood-maintenance efforts would be viable. Project status reported at the meeting: roughly 20% complete with foundations, dirt work and electrical rough-in finished; steel pavilion structures and CMU privacy wall are pending installation.
Council approved the change order with brief discussion about material choices — the privacy wall will be concrete masonry units — and asked staff to continue coordinating with the neighborhood association as the work proceeds.
