Copperas Cove nominates Inez Faizon to central appraisal district; second seat postponed

The City of Copperas Cove City Council on Oct. 6 nominated Inez Faizon to serve a four-year term on the Coryell (spelled in materials as "Coriel") Central Appraisal District board and postponed selection of a second nominee until its Oct. 7 meeting.
Ariana Beckman, the city’s director of budget, told council that the city may nominate one or two candidates by Oct. 15 and that the incoming terms will run from Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2029, under recent changes to the Texas property tax code. Beckman said nominees must be district residents for at least two years and that employees of taxing units are ineligible unless they are elected officials.
Councilman Sean Alzona moved to nominate Inez Faizon and Kevin George. After discussion raised by council members noting Faizon is a Copperas Cove resident and questioning whether Kevin George lives in the city, council members agreed to nominate Inez Faizon and delay the second nomination until the next meeting. Council members said the delay would allow time to consider a nominee who resides in Copperas Cove.
Council members were explicit that ballot allocation for appraisal district elections is determined by each taxing unit’s share of the property tax levy and that the city’s nominations must be submitted to the appraisal district by Oct. 15. No formal vote tally beyond the voice vote confirmation was recorded in the meeting minutes.
