Planned Parenthood urges support for H1315/S824 to preserve IUD sedation option

She said the service has been provided to over 500 patients since its introduction and that recent guidance from the CDC and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists supports broader consideration of pain management options, including sedation, for cervical procedures.
"It is not for lack of expertise or ability to deliver this care that many health care providers choose not to provide the option of sedation for IUD procedures, but about the financial constraints of doing so," Riggles said.
She added that in the past six months PPLM prepared for the possibility of "millions of dollars in lost federal funding," and that providers had to reduce sedation appointment availability. Riggles presented H1315 and S824 as a legislative fix to help preserve and expand this option and asked the committee to give both bills a favorable report.
No committee votes or formal actions were recorded during the testimony; Riggles offered the organization as a resource for follow-up questions.
