The Township of Washington Council voted on Sept. 22 to remove Jeffrey Roberto as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment after a public hearing on attendance and notice procedures.
Township Attorney Shavon Bailey reviewed the record at the start of the hearing, saying the Zoning Board chair had submitted a July 16, 2025 letter documenting Roberto’s attendance and that a certified letter notifying Roberto of the Sept. 22 hearing was returned as received. Bailey recommended the council mark the submitted correspondence and return receipts into evidence before voting.
Councilman Cascio moved to remove Roberto; Councilman Sears seconded. The council then held a roll-call vote: Cascio — yes; Sears — yes; Councilman Oman — yes; Councilwoman Velez — yes; Council President DeSantis — yes. The motion carried unanimously.
Bailey said the council’s packets included the July 16 correspondence from ZBA Chairman Fred Getz, a resolution initiating removal proceedings, the certified notice dated Sept. 10, 2025, and the return receipt confirming delivery. The council’s action followed the ordinance procedure the attorney said was required to consider removal for attendance concerns.
The council did not receive in-person testimony from Roberto; Bailey said Roberto had been served and was permitted to appear by counsel but had not communicated that he would attend. Council members proceeded with the evidentiary record and the vote.
The removal was recorded as Resolution No. 25-311 on the meeting agenda.
