Central office staff said Brian Cartwright will transfer from his current 504 coordinator position at Hamden Academy to educational outreach coordinator; the transfer is pending receipt of funding that the district said arrived on Monday. The board was told the transfer will occur as soon as funding is available.
Kimberly Fox was hired as a half-time special education teacher at George B. Wetherbee School. Central office staff said Fox has two years of experience as an educational technician, completed student teaching at Wetherbee, holds a Bachelor of Science in special education from the University of Maine at Machias, and will be paid a prorated half-time salary of $22,770 while retaining her other half-time educational technician position.
Britney Harmon was named the 504 coordinator at Hamden Academy, pending grant funding the district reported it has since received. Staff told the board Harmon has 15 years of experience as a teacher, school counselor and intervention specialist, a master's degree in school counseling from Saint Laurent University, and that her annual salary will be $69,350.41.
The board was also informed that John McCallion will become Canada Academy's athletic director, with a start date of Oct. 20. Staff said McCallion has seven years of administrative experience and is currently an assistant principal; his prorated salary was listed as $96,000.
Board members received these personnel items as informational reports; no vote was reported. One transfer and one hire were described as contingent on funding that staff said had been received. The board confirmed that the superintendent had continuing authority to hire certain positions as previously granted.
