Superintendent reports smart-device ban 'going very, very well' with few incidents

The Niagara Falls City School District superintendent reported the district’s new smart-device ban is working with only a small number of incidents since the start of the school year.
The superintendent said, “It still continues to go very, very well,” and reported the district received one parent call in about three and a half weeks of school. Administrators identified one serious elementary-level violation and four damaged locking-pouch clips at the prep-school level that need replacement. Most instances, the superintendent said, were resolved with warnings or reminders and had not risen to insubordination or disorderly conduct.
Board members and student representatives were credited with supporting enforcement; the superintendent said staff and students are “making the month of September a very smooth introduction to this cell phone, smart device ban.” The district said it will replace the four damaged pouch clips and will continue to monitor compliance and report back to the board as needed.
The superintendent’s remarks were made as part of the superintendent’s report and were not an action item on the agenda.
