Doctor Roberts and Doctor Harrison presented the district’s follow‑up on DLAC recommendations during the Sept. 23 meeting, describing ways the district will incorporate parent committee input into the LCAP.
Doctor Roberts reminded the board that DLAC (the district language advisory group) had submitted recommendations as part of the annual LCAP process and that the board had requested a follow‑up showing what was and was not incorporated into the district plan. Doctor Harrison said the recommendations were “very heartfelt and authentic” and laid out several action areas the district is pursuing.
Harrison summarized DLAC recommendations and district responses: better sharing of measurable growth (proposed coffee with cabinet, an "LCAP Roadshow," virtual town halls and video updates), support for classroom frameworks and culturally responsive pedagogy (aligning local plans with the state English Learner Roadmap and professional development), a push for unified math alignment (reconvening a math task force and preparing for upcoming state adoption recommendations), ELD program enhancements (using Wonders, StudySync and Elevation software to track progress and support reclassification), celebrating reclassification and student testimonials, parent engagement incentives (t‑shirts, badges, PBIS linkages) and cultural celebrations tied to board‑adopted monthly themes and the district’s 60th anniversary.
Board members thanked DLAC parents and staff. Several trustees said they would follow up on items such as testimonials at reclassification ceremonies and connecting PTA and parent leaders to district outreach. The board did not take a formal vote; staff described ongoing task forces and said they will continue to report back as work proceeds.
