Deb Welsbie, a fourth-generation resident of Kenmore, addressed Akron City Council during public comment to report concerns about a strip of land behind homes on Cobre Avenue that she and three neighbors have maintained for roughly 60 years.
Welsbie said the land behind the former Baptist Temple (now the Word Church) and adjacent to the proposed Amazon development off Manchester Road had a fence set back "about 30 to 50 feet from the property line," and that the recorded property line lies roughly 40 feet inside the fence. She said the neighbors had maintained the land as backyards across successive owners and that they intend to meet with Amazon; she asked the council to support surveying and deed transfer so the neighbors can keep the strip of land. "Our goal is to have this land justifiably given the time that we have been maintaining this land, that would be surveyed and deeded to us," she said.
Welsbie told the council she has been working with city staff member Tina and hoped to meet with Amazon this week. The clerk thanked her for bringing the matter to the council's attention; the transcript records no formal council direction or vote to place the matter on a future agenda during the meeting.
