The Covington County Commission agreed Sept. 23 to hold a special-call meeting at 9 a.m. next Monday to finalize and approve the fiscal year 2026 budget.
County leadership said staff and the county administrator have nearly completed the proposed budget but that "a few more changes" remain. The chair recommended a special meeting so the commission could approve the budget once outstanding items are settled. "We got 7 days," a commissioner said while discussing notice requirements for a special call.
A motion to set the special-call meeting for 9 a.m. next Monday to approve the budget was made by Tommy and seconded by Miss Lynn; commissioners voted in favor. County staff said the special meeting would allow them to present the final changes rather than delay adoption.
No budget figures or line-item changes were adopted at the Sept. 23 meeting; staff and commissioners discussed timing and the legal notice window for a special call meeting only. The commission did not take final budget votes at the regular meeting.
