The LaSalle City Council approved an ordinance authorizing an agreement with 18 Recyclers to host a consumer electronics collection event on April 4, 2026, for a cost of $8,000.
City staff told the council the event is similar to two prior collections the city organized under the state's electronics-recycling mechanism (referred to in the meeting as the “consumer electronic electronics recycling act”), which shifts some disposal costs to manufacturers. Staff said the city disposed of about 32,000 pounds of material at the first event and 26,000 pounds at the second event.
Council discussion included confirmation of the cost ($8,000) and the event date, April 4, 2026. Staff indicated a limit on the number of TVs accepted in past events (two per household) but said specific event procedures for 2026 had not been finalized at the time of the meeting.
Aldermen voted by roll call to authorize the agreement and move forward with planning for the event. No additional funding sources or changes to the fee structure were discussed during the meeting.
