The Coffee County Legislative Committee on Sept. 29 reviewed proposed revisions to the county sick-leave policy and voted to forward the changes to the full commission. Committee members said the amendments clarify acceptable sick-leave uses and add documentation measures intended to address suspected abuse.
Committee members said the draft revisions, which were provided to the committee by staff, add language on sick-leave use, potential abuse and the requirement of a doctor's certificate in certain circumstances. The chair said the current sick-leave language is largely on the first two pages of the document, and the proposed amendments are in the last two pages of the packet.
"The sick leave uses, the sick leave abuse, doctor, certificate. Those have been added from what I understand," the chair said when presenting the draft. Members said elected officials and department heads requested stronger language to give supervisors "some teeth" to address questionable use.
Commissioner Chambers moved to forward the sick-leave revisions to the full commission as presented; Commissioner Miller seconded the motion. The committee voted in favor and will place the proposed revisions on the full commission agenda for final action.
No final adoption occurred at the committee meeting; the full commission will consider the draft at a future meeting and may amend it further.
