Commission hears updates: council approved sign code and DCM district changes; next P&Z hearing Oct. 23

At its Oct. 9 meeting staff told the Geneva Planning and Zoning Commission that the City Council had approved a set of zoning text amendments — including sign code and downtown lot-coverage changes — and had approved a DCM district text amendment and two related special-use permits.
At its Oct. 9 meeting the Geneva Planning and Zoning Commission received staff updates that the City Council recently approved a package of city-initiated text amendments covering sign code changes, downtown parking, lot-coverage language cleanups, and other clarifying edits.
Staff reported that a separate text amendment to the DCM district to allow residential ground-floor uses as a special use was approved by council, and that council also approved two associated special-use permits for properties in the DCM district. City staff said those actions came to council from previous commission referrals and were approved at the last council meeting.
City planner Matt Busing summarized the items as routine code cleanups and clarifications and noted that both the text amendment and the two special-use requests passed at council. He also told the commission the next commission meeting is Oct. 23 and will include another porch setback variation (this one on North First); staff said the Oct. 23 agenda should be relatively short.
No formal action was taken by the Planning and Zoning Commission on these items during the Oct. 9 meeting; the items described were reported as completed actions at the City Council level or upcoming agenda items for future commission consideration.
