The Town of Southborough Tricentennial Committee discussed Oct. 8 plans to stage a large community barbecue and music festival in summer 2027 and considered coordinating with the Recreation DepartmentSummer Nights series to access existing logistics and audiences.
Committee member Keith said he had talked with local event producers and the Recreation Department and favored a format with three to five bands over a four- to five-hour period; options discussed included coordinating with an established Summer Nights date and enhancing that program with larger bands, a drone show or expanded fireworks. Keith said some Summer Nights events already draw thousands of attendees and that using a date that already attracts a crowd could reduce the committee's logistical burden.
Speakers discussed practical needs for a larger event: stages, a stage manager or DJ to coordinate band transitions, parking, staging, security and police details, and vendor zones (food trucks and family activities). Keith said he would meet again with Recreation Department staff (Travis) to flesh out costs and logistics and return with an estimated budget and recommendations.
Next steps: Organizers will refine a scope and cost estimate and evaluate possible venues (Neary Field, Moonee Field, Chestnut Hill Farm or similar sites) and dates. The committee flagged procurement, insurance and vendor deposit timing as items that must be settled before commitments are made.
