The Town of Southborough Tricentennial Committee on Wednesday recommended that the select board appoint Jamie to a vacant committee seat, after Jamie described his veteran service and volunteer interest.
The recommendation, made at the committee's Oct. 8 meeting, came after Jamie said he had applied for the role and pledged to help with events and fundraising. Jamie told the committee, "I am a veteran. I'm a lifelong member of South Bro. I'm a business owner in town." The committee moved and seconded a recommendation that the select board appoint him; members voted in favor on a raised-hands vote.
The recommendatory motion now goes to the select board for a formal appointment. Committee members said the new seat will help with event logistics and outreach, including serving as a veteran representative for the firearms muster and other program elements. The committee did not adopt any additional delegations for the new member at the meeting.
Committee chair and staff said the next step is a formal appointment by the select board; no select-board action was taken at the meeting.
The committee also noted other prospective volunteers who had expressed interest and were directed to submit formal volunteer applications for consideration.
