Larimer County proclaims October 2025 National Long-Term Care Residents Rights Month

The Larimer County Board of County Commissioners on Oct. 7 proclaimed October 2025 as National Long-Term Care Residents Rights Month, highlighting local ombudsman services and outreach to nursing home and assisted-living residents.
Eliza Hensley, a Larimer County long-term care ombudsman, told the board the federal nursing home reform law guarantees protections for nursing home residents, including dignity and self-determination, and described local ombudsman work that supports those rights. Hensley said the county ombudsman office has three staff and three volunteers covering 14 nursing homes and 31 assisted-living communities with more than 3,000 beds in Larimer County.
Commissioners thanked the ombudsman staff for advocacy and outreach, and several noted visits to local long-term care facilities and the importance of protecting residents’ rights and access to voting and community engagement. The board approved the proclamation by a 3–0 vote.
Hensley urged community members to support resident rights and noted the ombudsman program assists residents with complaints and information about long-term care options.
