Miami Gardens council approves election ordinance, adopts consent agenda; several routine motions pass

The City of Miami Gardens City Council on Oct. 8 approved an ordinance on first reading calling the 2026 general election for council seats 2, 4 and at-large seat 6 and took routine procedural votes, including approval of minutes, the meeting agenda and the consent agenda.
The ordinance to call the 2026 election (Item 9.1) passed on a roll-call vote with all seven members voting yes. The measure provides for the 2026 general election, a possible runoff if necessary, candidate qualification procedures and other routine election housekeeping; the city clerk was listed as the responsible official. The ordinance’s full text and ordinance number were not specified aloud during the meeting.
The council approved the draft minutes of the Sept. 24, 2025 regular meeting and adopted the meeting agenda by voice vote. The consent agenda was taken in its entirety and approved by a voice vote with no recorded opposition.
Council members also moved through quasi-judicial and other items later in the agenda, including a rezoning for a planned development (covered in a separate article).
