Neighbor raises safety concerns at Fairview Veterans Park basketball court and asks for splash pad to open next summer

Marybeth Costello, a Ward 9 resident, told the Chicopee City Parks and Recreation Committee during public input that the basketball court at Fairview Veterans Park is unsafe and causes noise and traffic concerns.
"That basketball court is not safe. When they shoot baskets, goes off the rim, it ends up going into a street," Costello said during the Oct. 6 meeting. She said the street is used for park traffic and school activity in the afternoons and evenings, and that the bouncing ball creates a persistent noise for nearby neighbors.
Costello also raised a neighborhood concern about the splash pad at Fairview Veterans Park and said she hopes it will be ready for use next summer. She thanked Representative Arriaga for her efforts to bring Play Act funding and park improvements to Chicopee and urged continued work on park safety and amenities.
No formal committee action was taken on the public comment beyond the procedural motion to close public input. Committee members placed the agenda item on file after hearing public comments and then adjourned.
