The Committee on Community Development on Oct. 7 approved renaming the loop at Ralph Wilson Park to the Mary McLean Wilson Trail.
Council member Rivera urged recognition of local contributors and said he supported naming trailways and buildings after people who have contributed to the city. “I would like to see more buildings and more trailways named after women who have contributed to the city,” Rivera said.
Council member Mitch Nowakowski, who represents the area around the park, said the park will be a “world-class park” and that pedestrian connections to neighborhoods are important. He thanked the Conservancy and the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation for their work on the park.
A motion to close the public hearing was made and the committee then moved to approve the renaming; the motion to approve was seconded by Council member Everhart. The transcript records the motion to approve and the second, and the item was recorded as approved in committee.
The action renames the loop within Ralph Wilson Park on the West Side; the council record provided in the transcript excerpt does not include a recorded roll-call vote in the excerpt.
