Committee recommends approval for wine bar at 1006–1008 Elmwood

The Buffalo City Committee on Legislation voted to recommend approval of a tavern license for a proposed natural wine bar at 1006–1008 Elmwood.
Clayton Lisonbee, who operates a cheese shop at 106 Elmwood, told the committee he plans to reopen an internal doorway to use the adjacent space as a wine bar that will operate in the evenings. Lisonbee said the cheese shop has been open a little over a year and that the wine bar would use the cheese shop’s kitchen after the shop closes.
The committee chair and members asked about the proposed hours. Lisonbee said he expects weekday operations Wednesday and Thursday from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from about 5 to 10 p.m., and Sundays about 5 to 8 or 9 p.m. The chair said the committee would not propose additional conditions tied to closing times.
No members of the public asked to speak after Lisonbee’s presentation. The committee opened and then closed the public hearing and moved to approve the application; the motion was seconded by Council member Rivera. The record in the committee shows the recommendation to approve without conditions.
The committee’s recommendation will be transmitted to the full Common Council as part of the regular legislative process.
