County manager announces new HR director, $4 million Land & Water Fund grant and upcoming fire-prevention event

County Manager and staff used the Oct. 6 meeting to introduce new personnel and to announce a major conservation grant for a high-profile land acquisition.
The manager introduced Tanika Bryant as the county's new human resources director. Bryant was described as having 23 years of HR experience, most recently serving as employee relations manager in Wake County government, with prior HR roles in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and in Georgia; staff said she holds a master's degree in organizational leadership and behavior and a bachelor's degree in journalism.
Staff also told commissioners that Alamance County was awarded a $4,000,000 grant from the North Carolina Land and Water Fund to assist the county in acquiring a large portion of the Alston Quarter property. The manager said the funding will support an extension of the Haw River State Trail and the Mountains-to-Sea Trail by more than a mile. The manager added the $4 million brings "total grant funds awarded for this particular project to over $88,200,000" as reported at the meeting; staff said the item will appear on a future agenda with more detail.
Finally, the manager's office publicized a fire prevention event hosted by the fire marshal's office on Thursday the ninth, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., in front of the Roasted Coffee Depot by the county building.
No board action was required for these announcements; staff said the grant and related acquisition planning will be presented to commissioners at a forthcoming meeting.
