The domestic violence proclamation, read into the record, described domestic violence as a public-safety and public-health issue and highlighted the Family Justice Center of Alamance County as a one-stop provider of services for victims of interpersonal violence. The proclamation text stated that the Family Justice Center and its partners "have served over 17,000 victims, more than 26,000 since opening its doors" (language contained in the proclamation text as read to the board).
The board then approved a proclamation recognizing the role of domestic and care workers, citing national and local statistics about unpaid family caregivers and the importance of home-based care. Both proclamations were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; the chairman signed both documents during the meeting.
No funding or policy changes accompanied the proclamations; they are ceremonial recognitions that the board said were intended to raise awareness and encourage community support for victims and for domestic and care workers.
