The City of San Rafael Public Works Department presented a 3- and 5-year Pavement Maintenance Management Plan that maps planned treatments, treatment methods and schedules and aims to coordinate resurfacing with bicycle-and-pedestrian striping upgrades and ADA transition work.
Gray (listed in the presentation as a senior civil engineer) and staff said the planning document will be posted on the city website with an interactive map so residents can search for planned treatments on their streets. The plan schedules crack sealing and localized dig-outs in 2025 and a larger maintenance contract to be bid in winter or spring for work after the rainy season. Treatments indicated for the 2025 slate include accelerated slurry mix and fiberized micro-surfacing in Terralinda and nearby neighborhoods.
Public Works stressed the opportunity to add enhanced striping, high-visibility crosswalks and improved sharrows as resurfacing proceeds. Staff said projects in the paving plan will be coordinated with safe-routes-to-school and other pedestrian improvements to reduce duplication and to incorporate the bicycle-and-pedestrian plan’s recommendations where feasible. The plan will go to City Council for public comment and includes maps that identify specific streets and recommended treatments.
Committee members requested earlier access to full presentation maps before meetings to allow detailed review. Staff agreed to publish the plan and construction documents on the city site and to return to the committee with specifics when designs go to bid.
