The Lacey Parks, Culture and Recreation Board on Oct. 1 approved a special events park permit to allow an organizer to operate a one‑day beer garden during a Socktoberfest event at the Regional Athletic Complex on June 18.
Sue Palish, recreation manager, summarized the application and said the organizer previously ran beer gardens at USL soccer matches at the facility this summer without incident. Palish said the proposed beer garden would be confined to an upper‑level open area near fields 2, 3 and 4 and would operate from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The board packet shows the applicant has the required permits for similar past events.
The motion to approve the special events and park application permit passed by voice vote after a commissioner moved and another seconded the motion; no roll‑call tally was recorded.
Event details recorded in the packet and staff remarks: the beer garden would be limited to a tented and confined area, youth games will continue on other fields during the day and the beverage offerings will be beer and hard seltzers only. Staff noted prior implementations at the rack had no reported problems.
Next steps: the organizer will proceed with required permitting and operational plans, subject to the city’s standard event conditions and permitting checklist.
