Weld County extends oil-and-gas lease for six months after bonus payment

Weld County commissioners on Monday approved a six-month extension of an oil-and-gas lease covering county property currently leased to Bison 4 Properties Colorado LLC.

County staff recommended the extension after the lessee submitted the required payment equal to one-third of the original bonus, which the board's policy allows in order to extend a lease up to six months beyond its expiration date. The proposed extension moves the lease expiration from Sept. 23 to March 23, 2026; staff said the payment had been received and recommended approval.

Commissioner James moved to approve the resolution, Commissioner Heckler seconded, and the board approved the extension by voice vote. No additional lease terms, financial details beyond the one-third-bonus payment, or public comment were discussed on the record.
