City transportation staff said a Safe Streets for All federal grant would, if awarded, fund pedestrian improvements on several neighborhood roads including Roxburgh Drive, Wavetree and Mimosa, and that design and public input would follow selection.
At the Sept. 29 open forum, resident Roy Rorabashaw asked for details about the grant, rights‑of‑way and where sidewalks might be located. "Right now, we are still planning to hear back hopefully by December whether we are selected," said Greg (transportation staff). He said the grant application would fund traffic‑calming or sidewalk work on Mimosa, Wavetree and Roxburgh and that, if the award comes through, the city would begin a design process that includes required public engagement for federally funded projects.
Council Member David Johnson, who said he lives within eight houses of one affected block, said the city will do door‑to‑door outreach on Roxburgh to collect resident input if the grant is awarded. City staff confirmed the developer (or grant) would be responsible for providing traffic studies and design documents during the plan review and that federal funding would add required public‑outreach steps.
On the timing and scope: staff said the project is still at the grant‑application stage; design and detailed engineering will begin only if the city is selected. Staff said final design, right‑of‑way needs and mitigation would be addressed in the design phase and subject to public meetings and project review.
