Weld County approves several temporary road closures for October construction and railroad work

The Weld County Board of Commissioners on Monday approved several temporary road closures to accommodate railroad upgrades, culvert replacement and road widening, with detours and dust-control measures in place.

Public Works Director Amy Macci told the board the closures are scheduled to begin Oct. 13 and run through dates that vary by project: County Road 88 between U.S. Highway 85 and County Road 35 will be closed Oct. 13'17 to permit Union Pacific Railroad track upgrades followed by final paving by county crews; County Road 58 between Weld County Parkway and County Road 53 will be closed Oct. 13'17 for replacement of an irrigation culvert; and County Roads 1.5 and 3 between County Roads 10 and 10.5 will be closed Oct. 13 through Nov. 26 for widening and paving at a Y intersection.

Macci said the detours for the projects are paved, with the County Road 88 detour described as two miles of paved and one mile of gravel; water will be used for dust control as needed. Message boards will be placed in advance for the longer County Roads 1.5 and 3 closure. The board approved each closure by motion without further discussion.

The board recorded the closures as temporary permits to facilitate infrastructure repairs and road improvements coordinated between county crews and Union Pacific Railroad.
