City staff and council members discussed building-inspection results at the Sept. 23 meeting and agreed to prioritize renovation of the fire department annex and to pursue further inspection and cost analysis for other city assets.
Mayor and Safety Director Eva presented the building inspection reports for city hall, the service department garage and the fire department annex and said renovating the annex is the immediate priority. The administration noted new siding work is scheduled to be installed next and interior renovations will follow. Council asked for details on roofing ponding and a warranty claim; staff said roofers were being contacted and some warranty claims had been filed.
Administrative Director Martin reported the city website and financial documents were updated and that Aqua (water utility contractor) had no large projects scheduled next year. The service department reported a sinking problem at a storm drain behind a Walgreens; a camera inspection showed about 15 feet of failing pipe and engineers advised replacement. The administration said a temporary barrier may be placed to keep cars away from the area until repairs are made.
Council also raised concerns about possible asbestos flooring in one storage closet identified in property inspections; staff said an inspection would be performed to confirm whether the material is asbestos and that, if present, removal would be handled under appropriate procedures. Electrical issues were highlighted as the category with the most level‑2 and level‑3 recommendations in the inspection report; council members said electrical hazards should be prioritized even if more expensive.
Council asked the administration to produce a prioritized action list with estimated costs and timelines for high‑priority items, including the annex renovation, roof repairs and any asbestos remediation, to inform budget and capital planning.
