Council holds public hearing on proposed Yampa annexation; timeline set for first and second readings

Prescott Valley, Ariz. — The Town Council opened a public hearing Sept. 25 on proposed annexation ANX-25-001 (Yampa) for property west of Fifth Street and north of Bain Park, across from the VFW and Moose Lodge.

Staff explained the hearing is required by state statute and outlined the statutory timeline: a blank petition filing period, the public hearing held Sept. 25, a scheduled first reading of the annexation ordinance on Oct. 9, and a potential second reading and final action on Oct. 23, if all statutory steps are satisfied.

A representative for the applicant said the planned building would be approximately 20,000 square feet with roughly 50 employees. No public comments were offered at the hearing. Council members asked staff clarifying questions about the site and schedule; staff confirmed the item will return for formal readings as required by state annexation procedures.

Why it matters: Annexation changes municipal boundaries and subjects the site and future development to town zoning, permitting, and taxation. The council’s public hearing fulfills a required procedural step under state law; additional hearings and ordinance readings will follow.
