Select Board members discussed a petition from Heather Lane residents to rename the street and to correct a small number of address sequencing issues. Town Administrator Bill Sweet reported that residents favored renaming Heather Lane to “Crossman Drive extension” and that mapping staff found most house numbers are close to correct; a few properties were ‘off’ and could be corrected at owner request.
The board decided to notify all affected property owners with a letter, offer an opportunity to discuss the options and consider a formal decision at an October meeting. The town will not change numbers immediately; changes would be flagged for property transactions and are likely to be effective in January. Sweet noted that in a few locations (where odd/even sequencing is violated) the town will send letters to explain that a change is administrative and may be necessary to comply with 911 addressing rules.
Why it matters: Street naming and addressing changes affect mail delivery, emergency response and property records; town staff emphasized coordination and notice to minimize disruption.
Next steps: Town staff will send a second round of letters to the affected residents, hold a follow-up meeting and bring a formal name-change decision to the select board at a future meeting.
