Walnut Creek resident urges city to address freeway noise affecting Jones Road homes

Suzanne Howard, a Walnut Creek resident, urged the Planning Commission and Design Review Commission during public comment on Oct. 1 to give more attention to noise pollution from a large freeway that runs through the city.
"So much of the residential dwelling units on Jones Road alone are completely subject to the freeway," Howard said. "It's really disruptive from, like, a sleep quality perspective." She told commissioners that she had been referred between the Contra Costa Transportation Authority and Caltrans when she raised the issue and asked the city to keep the matter on its radar and to consider post‑construction sound‑abatement measures for already built neighborhoods.
Staff did not announce a formal follow‑up at the meeting. Commissioners acknowledged the comment and the presenter concluded the item after the staff presentation on AB 130 and SB 131.
No action was taken; the comment was entered during the public‑communications portion of the special meeting.
