District continues strategic-plan community engagement; draft goals on academics and student supports

Assistant superintendents Brian Smith (academics) and Adam Smith (student services) updated the board on the district’s strategic‑planning process, which began earlier in 2025. They said the process has included community listening sessions and a steering committee and that the draft plan will be revised after three remaining community meetings. Draft goals introduced so far include strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy in elementary grades and expanding mental‑health resources and social‑emotional learning districtwide.
The presenters summarized feedback from the first community sessions: strong community support for literacy and numeracy goals, calls for expanded in‑school mental‑health services and interventions, and interest in inclusive extracurricular programming and transportation support for after‑school activities. They noted two upcoming steering‑committee meetings on Oct. 8 (facilities, operations and finance) and Oct. 22 (community involvement) and that the district expects to present a draft to the board in December and seek board approval in March 2026 for a plan covering July 2026–June 2031.
No board action was required; the presentation was informational. Board members thanked staff for the community engagement and encouraged continued participation and transparent reporting as the plan is finalized.
