At its meeting, the Superior Common Council took formal action on a range of routine and project items. Leadership and appointments Tom Fennessy was elected council president. Dennis Dalbeck was elected council vice president (recorded as 7-3). Mayor Bruce Hagen reappointed William Fennessy to the Superior Housing Authority Board of Commissioners; the appointment carried.
Budgets and finance The council approved 2015 budgets for Information Services, the Library, the Wastewater Utility and the Stormwater Utility as presented by Finance Director Vito.
Contracts, bids and public works The council approved a one-year extension (through 2015) of a contract for monitor well sampling and reporting with SEH Inc. for $35,300. The council authorized the sale of a parcel at 1116 North Twelfth Street with a minimum bid of $750. It awarded the city's 2015 blacktop/asphalt contracts, approved pavement-marking services to Farner Asphalt Coating for $31,421.60 with a possible additional $4,700 for specific markings, and approved televising services for 13.4 miles of sanitary sewer to Northern Pipe Equipment Inc for $34,707.80.
Parks and environment The council approved a permit request to place devices to study mercury uptake in harbor sediment and approved the Children's Memorial Garden proposal (see separate article).
Planning and zoning The council adopted multiple resolutions setting public hearings on June 2 and June 16 for rezoning and street-vacation requests (items included rezoning lots near Fifth and Ninth Avenues East to R-2 two-family residential; rezoning near Nineteenth Avenue East and East Thirteenth Street to R-1B single-family; and several street and alley vacates described in agenda items 10.3–10.5). The council also approved the redevelopment authority's report regarding the development agreement with Stormworks Corporation and Mill Technic LLC.
Ordinances The council passed ordinances amending the traffic code relating to vehicles for hire, repealing and recreating portions of City Code chapter 14 for the public water utility, updating utilities sections, and adding and deleting specific stop intersections per Public Works Committee recommendations. The council approved an administrative amendment to City Code chapter 2 (section 2.32, call to order).
Other The council approved minutes from the April 8 meeting, carried the consent agenda (with one item separated for discussion), and proclaimed International Migratory Bird Day as May 9, 2015.
