Scott County Emergency Management and public-safety officials briefed the fiscal court on surveillance upgrades, tornado-shelter planning and a rescinded burn ban during the Sept. 25 meeting.
Mike Hennigan reported completion of a surveillance and access-control project at the county station, noting Southeast Banking personnel finished camera installation. Hennigan said the department is working with the vendor to design camera monitoring for two tornado shelters after recent incidents—one shelter was found unlocked and another experienced an attempted theft of solar panels.
Hennigan also said the county has a bid package ready for a third tornado shelter and that a private party has committed to a 50/50 public-private cost split and to grant an easement; staff will present details and a bid authorization at the next meeting.
Judge Executive Joe Pat Covington told the court that Chief Ward recommended rescinding the burn ban enacted Sept. 17; court minutes state the burn ban has been rescinded and officials will continue to monitor conditions.
Action items and next steps: emergency management staff will return with a formal bid authorization for the third tornado shelter and details of the public-private partnership, and staff will pursue camera-monitoring options for the two shelters. The rescinded burn ban takes immediate effect per the court’s notice.
